Lookman sets €40m release clause demand in new Atalanta contract

Ademola Lookman’s future at Atalanta has taken a new twist, with the Nigerian forward reportedly open to renewing his contract, on one condition: a release clause of around €40 million must be included.

The demand, revealed by journalist Armando Areniello on AreaNapoli.it’s official YouTube channel, could reshape the transfer landscape heading into the January window.

Lookman was heavily linked with both Napoli and Inter Milan during the summer, with Inter seemingly leading negotiations. However, talks between the Nerazzurri and Atalanta failed to produce an agreement, and Napoli eventually turned their attention to other targets.

Despite remaining in Bergamo, the fallout from the failed transfer has reportedly strained Lookman’s relationship with the club and its supporters.

Atalanta is keen to secure the winger’s long term commitment, but Lookman’s insistence on a €40 million clause signals both ambition and leverage.

Napoli, who had cooled their interest, may now reconsider, especially if the clause offers a clear path to acquisition.

One complication for any suitor is Lookman’s expected participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, which would see him miss several matches in early 2026.
