Lookman targets third double digits of goals for Atalanta, Simy’s record

Ademola Lookman will not only be looking to reach a double digit of goals in his third consecutive season for Atalanta on Monday when they face AS Roma at Stadio Olympico, he will also be keen to score the goals that will take him above Simy Nwankwo and make him the second most prolific Nigerian in Serie A history.

Lookman has netted 31 goals in 72 appearances across two and a half seasons, three goals behind Simy who netted 43 times in 116 appearances across five seasons and 34 behind Victor Osimhen who tops the chart with 65 goals in 108 appearances across four seasons.

He has scored nine goals in 15 appearances so far this season and if he scores at least once on Monday night, he will be netting a double digit of goals for the third season running in the LaLiga.

It will also be his eighth goal in the LaLiga which means he will be looking for two more in other games to reach double digits of goals in the Serie A also for the third season in a row.

He scored 15 times in 33 appearances in his first season in Italy with 13 of the goals in 31 games in the Serie A.

Last season, the 27-year-old scored 17 times in 45 appearances with 11 in 13 Serie A appearances and five in 11 Europa League matches including the hat-trick that fetched Atalanta the Europa League title, the club’s first Euro title.

If he scores, it will also be his first in three appearances against AS Roma.

Lookman has scored 41 times and provided 23 assists in the 93 games he has played for Atalanta across all competitions since he joined in 2022.
