Louis Saha: Why Amorin should sign Osimhen ahead of Gyokeres

Two-time Premier League winner and former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has told Ruben Amorim should target signing Victor Osimhen instead of Viktor Gyokeres in the January transfer window.

Gyokeres has scored 23 goals in 18 appearances for Sporting CP of Portugal across all competitions so far this season including 16 in 11 Primeira Liga games while Osimhen has netted eight times in nine games for Galatasaray since his switch on loan from Napoli of Italy in September, but Saha says the Nigerian has been the more consistent of the two over the years.

Saha, who scored 85 goals and provided 20 assists in 289 Premier League appearances believes Osimhen has been more consistent than the Swedish.

‘If you look at the stats, Man United should go after Victor Osimhen over Viktor Gyokeres, it’s as simple as that.

‘He’s been scoring goals for four years at Napoli and has done exactly the same since joining Galatasaray, scoring goals for fun.

‘He is a huge character and has the confidence to be a success everywhere he goes.

‘I think there is a bit more of a guarantee behind him given the amount of time he has been successful. He is a big game player, and he loves the game, he doesn’t care how his goals go in, he just wants to score and that’s what he does.

‘He is very focused, and he reminds me of Erling Haaland in that sense. I think he could be what Man United need,’ said Saha in an interview.

Gyokeres has however been the more prolific of the two after netting 43 goals in 50 games last season including 29 in 33 games in the Portuguese topflight and 22 goals in 50 appearances in the 2022/23 season.

Osimhen netted 17 times in 32 appearances last season and 31 in 39 games in the 2022/23 season when he scored 26 times in 32 games to inspire Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years and was also the top scorer in the competition, the first African to so emerge.
