Lyles to battle Jacobs over 60m for the first time at New Balance Indoor Grand Prix
Ese Brume out; Amusan and Ofili may return to competition
Reigning Olympics 100m champion, Noah Lyles will race against Larmont Marcel Jacobs, the 2021 Olympics 100m champion for the first time over the 60m at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix scheduled to hold on February 2, 2025, in Boston.
The Italain is among the new names confirmed for the World Athletics indoor tour-gold on Tuesday by the organisers.
Lyles and Jacobs have never met over the 60m, but the American has won the three times they raced over the 100m with the 27-year-old making it 3-0 at the final of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Also confirmed to run in Boston Olympic 400m hurdles gold medalist Rai Benjamin who will run in the 300min what his first indoor race since 2021 and he’ll will be be up against Vernon Norwood. This is their first head-to-head race since 2021.
Olympic 5000m and 10,000m bronze medalist Grant Fisher is dropping down to the 1500m.
Sportsnow.com.ng has not been able to confirm how many Nigerian athletes, if any, will compete in Boston. At least, the trio of Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and Favour Ofili were at the event last year.
With Brume, who jumped 6.58m to place third at the meeting last year, injured, the duo of Ofili and Amusan may make a return to Boston.
Last year, Amusan ran 7.75 to break the African 60m hurdles she set seven days earlier (7.77) at the Astana Indoor Meet while Ofili ran a new Nigerian record in the 300m indoors (35.99) at the competition.
