Madugu Keeps Super Falcons Grounded After 3-1 Ghana Win

Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, remains focused on refinement and progress despite his team’s convincing 3-1 victory against Ghana’s Black Queens in a Sunday friendly at Casablanca’s Ziaida Palace Benslimane field.

Striker Chinwendu Ihezuo, Barcelona’s Asisat Oshoala, and team captain Rasheedat Ajibade found the back of the net to seal the win in a closed-door encounter that showcased the Falcons’ growing cohesion.

‘The match gave us a real chance to see the full squad in action,’ Madugu said. ‘There’s strong spirit, great hunger to win, and a determination to build chemistry and effective combinations. We’re working towards ‘Mission X,’ and we believe our targets are achievable.’

The friendly was part of final preparations ahead of the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off Saturday. Nigeria’s first match is set for Sunday against Tunisia.

Under Madugu’s stewardship, the Super Falcons have shown consistency—eliminating Ethiopia en route to the 2024 Olympics, thrashing Cape Verde to qualify for WAFCON, and holding Portugal to a stalemate in Lisbon. They’ve also beaten Cameroon and Algeria, and pushed France to a narrow win in recent matches.

Madugu emphasized: ‘We’ll keep addressing our weak points. The team is shaping up, and we aim to be fully ready for Tunisia.’
