Maduka Okoye begins new season in Italy with a clean sheet

Super Eagles and Udinese FC goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye began his second season in Italian football with a clean sheet following his club’s 4-0 demolition of visiting Serie C side, Avellino in a Coppa Italia round of 64 game on Friday at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine.

The Nigerian was in goal for the entire duration of the game, a reward for his stellar performances last season that ensured Udinese retained its Serie A status.

Okoye, who joined the Italian Serie A side in August last year has now kept six clean sheets for the club in 27 games with five of the clean sheets coming in 21 Serie A games last season.

The 24-year-old will be aiming for more of Friday night’s performance as he hopes to regain his number 1 status in Nigeria senior national team, the Super eagles who are due to face Republic of Benin in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next month in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
