Mahrez overtakes Drogba with fifth Premier League title win

Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez has overtaken Didier Drogba as the African who has won the most Premier League titles in the competition’s history.

The Algerian who has scored 82 goals and provided 61 assists has now won five titles in nine seasons after Man City were crowned champions Saturday evening following Arsenal’s defeat at Nothingham Forest.

He won his first title with Leicester City in the 2015/16 season, netting 17 times in 37 appearances while his next four have come in the colours of Man City in 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22 and 2022/23.

He is now won one more than Drogba who was champions of England four times with Chelsea in 2004/05, 2005/06, 2009/10 and 2014/15. He scored 104 goals in 254 games.

Another Ivory Coast legend, Yaya Toure is third with three Premier League titles during his time with Man City while the Nigerian duo of Mikel Obi and Nwankwo Knau won twice each with Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.
