Man United Sack Amorim Following Poor Run and Cup Exit
Manchester United have confirmed the departure of head coach Ruben Amorim after just 14 months in charge.
The 40-year-old, who succeeded Erik ten Hag, leaves the club with immediate effect following a disappointing run of results.
In a statement released at 10:00 GMT on Monday, United said the decision was made ‘reluctantly’ but with the belief that a change was necessary to maximize their chances of finishing as high as possible in the Premier League.
Amorim departs with the team sitting sixth in the table, having won eight and drawn seven of their opening 20 league matches.
United’s struggles under Amorim included a shock EFL Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town, as well as a 15th-place finish last season. Their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final meant the club missed out on European football entirely for the 2025/26 campaign.
The statement thanked Amorim for his contribution and wished him well for the future. Darren Fletcher will step in to lead the team against Burnley on Wednesday.
