Man United Vs Fulham: Can Iwobi and Bassey repeat their 2024 heroics at Old Trafford?

Fulham’s Nigerian trio of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze will once again be in the spotlight as the Cottagers prepare to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Nearly two years ago, Iwobi and Bassey were the heroes in a famous Fulham victory at the Theatre of Dreams.
Bassey opened the scoring in the 65th minute, only for Harry Maguire to equalise late on. But Iwobi had the final say, striking in the 97th minute from an Adama Traoré assist to secure all three points for Fulham.
Since that memorable win, Fulham have lost two of their last three meetings with United. However, Iwobi has continued to make his mark, providing the assist for Emile Smith Rowe’s equaliser in their first clash this season at Craven Cottage.
This weekend, United will not only have to contend with Iwobi and Bassey but also Chukwueze, who has impressed since joining Fulham on loan from AC Milan.
The winger has already scored three goals and provided four assists in just 10 Premier League appearances.
For Iwobi, Sunday’s fixture carries added significance. It will be his 21st career appearance against Manchester United across all competitions, the most he has played against any English side.
Sixteen of those meetings have come in the Premier League, where he has scored twice and registered one assist.
His record against United stands at three wins, four draws, and nine defeats, and he will be aiming to avoid a tenth loss while helping Fulham repeat their Old Trafford heroics.
