Mbappe Replaces Haaland As World’s Most Valuable Player

French forward, Kylian Mbappe has replaced Manchester City Norwegian forward, Erling Haaland as the most valuable player in the world.

Mbappe was the cynosure of all eyes at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and was rewarded with the top scorer award after netting eight goals in seven appearances in the competition.

In its latest post World Cup update, Transfermarkt says Mbappe’s market value has soared after his stellar display in Qatar and the 24 year old who has scored 19 goals in 20 games for PSG so far this term is now valued at €180m.

‘The World Cup is a display window for players with the attention of the entire world on it,’ Transfermarkt head of international Christian Schwarz said.

‘We only paid attention to players, who showed significant improvements and/or managed to receive international focus that will ultimately lead to an increased interest on the transfer market—as a result, this World Cup market value update will only include upgrades.’

Prior to Qatar 2022 World Cup, Haaland was the most valuable player at €170m but his absence at the football fiesta and Mbappe’s incredible display ensured his value rose by €20m, from €160 million to €180m.

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka also joined the €100m club as his value also rose from €90m to €100m.

Other players whose value rose after impressing at the World Cup include Enzo Fernández, the Benfica star whose value increased from €35m to €55m and Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez who market value increased from €32m to €50m.

Others are Croatia’s Josko Gvardiol (new market value €75m), the Netherland’s Cody Gakpo (€60m), and Morocco’s Sofyan Amrabat (€25m) all saw their market value increase by €15m.
