Reigning Diamond League 800m champion, Mary Moraa of Kenya made it six wins in the six 800m races she as ran so far this
season after storming to victory at the Athletissima in Lausanne on Friday night.
The 23 year old ran a new 1:57.43 personal season’s best to win ahead of Hodgkinson Keely of Great Britain (1:58.37) and
Ghoul Natoya of Jamaica (1:58.90) but says it was one of the challenging races she has ran this year.
‘It was a very challenging race and I felt completely empty at the end of it. The weather was particularly difficult for
me. My mentor would have been extremely proud of my achievements tonight,’ she said after the race.
Moraa will be looking to add the World Championships title to the Diamond League title she won last September in Zurich.
She ended up with a bronze medal at the Oregon World Championships last year.
She is second in the world list for the year behind Hodgkinson who she holds a 4-3 head to head record over following her win at the Athletissima in their only clash so far this year.
