Morocco’s No.1 declares: Our goal is to win AFCON 2025 at home

Mounir Al-Mohammadi, the veteran goalkeeper of Morocco’s national team, has made clear that the Atlas Lions’ ultimate ambition is nothing less than winning the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s semi-final against Nigeria in Rabat, Al-Mohammadi stressed the importance of collective unity and experience.
‘Each player has his own path, but the common goal remains to deliver a performance worthy of Morocco,’ he said, underlining his role in guiding younger teammates through the pressure of a home tournament.
For Al-Mohammadi, this semi-final carries special significance. Despite featuring in several previous AFCON editions, this is the first time he has reached this stage with Morocco, a milestone that has sharpened his focus and heightened his desire to lift the trophy.
‘We are not far from achieving the title,’ he added. ‘We concentrate on every game to make the Moroccan fans happy.’
Reflecting on past disappointments, the goalkeeper admitted that lapses in earlier tournaments had cost Morocco dearly. But he insisted that lessons have been learned, and that the team now has the maturity and determination to go all the way.
