Mosindi set to return as a Sports Federation Secretary General after removal from AFN!
Immediate past Secretary General of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Rita Mosindi, is set to return as the Secretary General one of Nigeria’s sports federations barely a month after she was removed from the AFN.
Mosindi was indicted by two investigative committees who questioned her capacity to act as the chief administrative and financial head of the AFN.
The Ministerial Investigative Committee set up by former Sports Development Minister, John Enoh to probe Nigeria’s negative exposures at the Paris 2024 Olympics indicted Ms Mosindi for her role in the non-registration of Favour Ofili for the 100m event at the Games.
‘The Secretary General of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Rita Mosindi should be penalized by the appropriate authority for negligence in her duties.
‘She was unable to provide convincing evidence to our Committee to support her claim that she submitted important documents relating to the registration of the athlete, Favour Ofili in the 100 meters, to the Ministry of Sports Development and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC).
‘Rita Mosindi’s reliance on social media WhatsApp messaging as the only means of official communication does not speak well of her competence as an administrative officer,’ the Committee wrote in its report.
The AFN Audit Committee also found Ms Mosindi unworthy of her role as a secretary General.
‘The Federal Ministry of Sports should urgently redeploy the Secretary General as she has proved not to have the capacity to head the secretariat of the federation and be its chief administrative and accounting officer,’ the Committee also wrote in its report.
Sources close to Ms Mosindi told Sportsnow.com.ng at the weekend that a powerful figure in the National Sports Commission is behind the plan to return her to a sports Federation, not minding the stain it will have on the integrity of the leadership of the NSC.
‘Whether you guys like it or not, Rita is coming back. She has as her backer one of the big men in the NSC. Who cares about the indictments and the fact that she is still under the EFCC investigation,’ said one of the sources who preferred not to be named.
‘We are only waiting for the Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the NSC, to come back from Malyasia where he is with the Nigeria Women’s U19 Cricket team and sign her letter of redeployment to one of the sports federations,’ added the source who revealed Ms Mosindi might be moved to one of the combat sports.
