MTN Nigeria Honors Super Falcons with ₦150 Million After Historic WAFCON Triumph
In a bold tribute to resilience and excellence, MTN Nigeria awarded ₦150 million to the Super Falcons following their electrifying 3–2 comeback victory over Morocco to clinch the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title—marking their 10th championship win.
The announcement was made during a celebratory breakfast reception at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, attended by MTN leadership, officials from the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), and trailblazing businesswomen from across key sectors.
Of the ₦150 million gift, ₦115 million was allocated to the players and ₦35 million to the technical team, underscoring MTN’s commitment to rewarding effort and excellence.
MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, applauded the Falcons’ performance as a shining example of Nigerian women’s determination and spirit. ‘This achievement isn’t just a win—it’s a national statement of pride and possibility. Nigerian women are unstoppable when inspired by purpose,’ she remarked.
CEO Karl Toriola emphasized the emotional and strategic impact of MTN’s investment in football, describing the Falcons as role models and proof that Nigeria’s women can command global attention. ‘You’re more than champions—you’re beacons of inspiration,’ he told the team.
Super Falcons captain Rashidat Ajibade expressed profound gratitude to MTN, stating, ‘We feel seen, valued, and motivated. This recognition pushes us to raise the bar even higher.’
She dedicated the win to both the current squad and generations of past players, while calling for greater collaboration among stakeholders to transform Nigerian women’s football into a world-class force.
The event unfolded with performances by a classical string quartet, a soulful Afrobeats choir, and a special set by singer Praiz—all culminating in an emotional celebration that had the team dancing in joy.
