N2,000,000 up for grabs as runners gear up for Capital City 10km Race
The organisers of the Capital City Race Ikeja have announced that a total of two million naira will be awarded to winners of the second edition of the event.
Scheduled for Saturday, November 22, the race will begin at 7 a.m. from Ikeja City Mall and finish at the AVMCC Field in GRA, Ikeja.
With the theme ‘One Run Many Journey’, the Capital City Race (CCR) is designed as a platform that unites people from diverse backgrounds, encouraging participation in an initiative that promotes general well-being while offering runners a level playing field to sharpen their skills.
At a press briefing held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, described the race as a direct inspiration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration and aligned with the THEMES+ agenda.
Fatodu emphasized that promoting physical fitness and healthy living among Lagos residents is a core mandate of the government, adding that the 10 kilometre race provides an exciting opportunity to raise awareness about lifestyle choices while fostering mass participation and community bonding in the heart of the city.
Convener of the race, Dapo Ajayi, explained that the second edition of CCR goes beyond running, as it embodies fitness, tourism, and community unity.
He noted that the essence of the race lies in showing up, getting started, and pushing through to the finish line. Ajayi also acknowledged the unwavering support of sponsors, praising their dedication to ensuring the success of an initiative that promotes healthy living among participants.
Winners in both male and female categories will each receive ₦500,000, while runners who finish second and third will earn ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively.
