National Handball Federation Mourns Dorothy Elijah

The Nigerian handball community has been thrown into mourning following the death of national player Dorothy Elijah, a standout for Plateau Peacocks and Plateau State’s handball team.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) President Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNIQS) described Elijah as a “committed and talented player whose contributions to the growth of handball in Nigeria will not be forgotten.”

Elijah, who represented Nigeria in the Handball Premier League and several national competitions, passed away on Tuesday after a brief illness. She is scheduled to be buried on Friday.

Ojih said her passing came as a shock to the handball family, noting that her dedication and passion made her a respected figure among teammates, officials, and fans.

‘Her commitment, discipline, and love for the game will always be remembered. On behalf of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, teammates, officials of Plateau Peacocks, and the Plateau State handball community,’ he said.

Dorothy Elijah was widely admired for her resilience and consistency on the court. She played a pivotal role in Plateau Peacocks’ campaigns in the Nigeria Handball Premier League and was a regular feature in Plateau State’s national outings.

Her death leaves a deep void in Nigerian handball, where she was seen as one of the sport’s rising figures.
