Ndidi set to become Nigerian with most tackles in the EPL for the seventh time

Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi is set to end the 2024/25 Premier League season as the Nigerian with the most tackles in the competition for the seventh time in nine seasons, according to Complete Sports.

Ndidi joined the Foxes in January 2017 from Belgian Pro League side, KRC Genk, and, despite playing 26 games, ended the season as the Nigerian with the most tackles, followed by Victor Moses who had 47 tackles from 34 games.

Ndidi would go on to dominate the tackles stat scene for the next five seasons and even ended as the player that made the most tackles among all nationalities in the Premier League in 2017/18 (138) and 2018/19 (143).

The Super Eagles star’s dominance of the award came to an end in the 2022/23 season when Alex Iwobi pipped him by eight more tackles (69 to 61). That was the season Ndidi got subbed on (eight times) more times and got relegated to the Sky Bet Championships.

In his absence last season, three defenders fought for the award with Fulham’s Calvin Bassey (49) pipping Ola Aina (47) to the award while Luton Town’s Gabriel Osho was third with 41 tackles.

Ndidi is also set to end the season as the only Nigerian to score an own goal this season and will fight Bassey for the most yellow cards collected.

The Foxes midfielder has collected eight yellow cards this season, one more than Bassey with one game to end the season.

The 28 year old is also battling Aina for the highest number of interceptions made this season. He is just two behind Aina (33-31).

He tops Bassey with the highest number of blocks made (19-17).
