New Balance Indoor Grand Prix: Lyles storms to 6.52 personal season’s best, Alfred sets new national record in 300m
Noah Lyles stormed to a 6.52 personal season’s best to win the 60m event at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event in Boston, USA.
The reigning Olympic 100m champion ran 6.55 in the in semifinal heat to qualify for the final alongside Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike who ran 6.66 but did not show up for the final.
In the final, Lyles sped home first ahead of Terence Jones of the Bahamas (6.57 SB) and PJ Austin of the USA who ran a 6.60 personal season’s best to place third.
Tokyo Olympics 100m king, Marcel Jacobs of Italy who ran 6.69 to crash out at the semifinal stage was given a lane in the final and could only place fourth in 6.63.
It was victory for another Olympic champion at the event as Julien Alfred sped home first in the women’s 300m to set a new St Lucia record (36.16).
The Olympic 100m champion won the event ahead of her training partner Dina Asher-Smith who ran a new 36.87 lifetime best.
In the men’s 60m, reigning Olympic 110m hurdles champion, Grant Holloway made it a win for another Olympic champion after storming home first in a 7.42 personal season’s best.
