‘New City, New Colours, Same Hunger’: Alozie Excited to Begin New Chapter with Chicago Red Stars

Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie has expressed her excitement after sealing a move to Chicago Red Stars, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her career following her time with Houston Dash.

‘After an important chapter with Houston Dash, I’m proud to begin a new one with Chicago Red Stars,’ Alozie said. ‘Houston gave me the platform to grow, compete, and become a better player and person. Chicago Stars FC confirmed on Tuesday that they acquired Alozie from Houston Dash in exchange for $40,000 of allocation money. The club has also signed her to a three-year contract, keeping the defender in Chicago through the 2028 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.

Stars general manager Richard Feuz welcomed the Nigerian international, saying: ‘Michelle’s proven ability at both ends of the pitch, experience and leadership skills will be valuable assets for our team over the next few years. We are excited to welcome her to Chicago as we continue to build for 2026.’

Alozie began her professional career with Houston Dash in 2021, initially signed as a national team replacement player before earning a full roster spot. The California native featured in four matches during her rookie season, playing 114 minutes, before scoring two goals in 10 regular-season appearances in 2022 and helping the Dash reach their first-ever NWSL playoffs.

After signing a two-year extension, she enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023, finishing as one of the team’s top scorers with four goals. In total, she departs Houston with seven goals and two assists from 33 starts and 75 regular-season appearances.

On the international stage, Alozie has been a consistent presence for Nigeria since her debut in June 2021, where she scored her first goal for the Super Falcons. She has since earned 26 caps and scored twice, featuring in both the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.
