NFF Demands Stronger Preparations for Super Falcons for Morocco 2026
The Nigeria Football Federation has placed renewed emphasis on the Super Falcons’ preparations ahead of a crucial year for women’s football.
Rising from its meeting in Abuja, the Executive Committee directed the NFF Secretariat to channel significant effort, strategic planning and technical insight into securing top‑quality friendly matches for the Senior Women National Team, the Super Falcons, during the February 2026 FIFA window.
With the 10‑time African champions targeting an unprecedented 11th continental crown and a ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the Federation stressed that the Falcons must enter the 14th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, scheduled for 17 March to 3 April 2026, fully sharpened and competitively ready.
The Committee also turned its attention to the worrying decline in the performances of Nigeria’s youth teams on the international stage.
After what it called an extensive review, it mandated the Technical and Legal Departments to design new guidelines for the establishment and regulation of football academies across the country.
These guidelines are expected to introduce stronger structures for genuine grassroots development while ensuring that all rules and operational standards align with global best practices and the statutes of FIFA.
The Federation emphasized that rebuilding the youth system is essential to restoring Nigeria’s long‑term football identity and competitiveness.
