NFF Disciplinary Committee Slams Heavy Sanctions on Gombe, Wikki, Kwara United
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee has handed down a series of sanctions following protests lodged by Gombe United, Wikki Tourist, and Kwara United over controversial matches in the Nigeria National League (NNL) and Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
In the case of Gombe United’s clash with Jigawa Golden Stars on December 21, 2025, the committee ruled that Gombe United was guilty of fan encroachment after supporters forced the referee to overturn a goal-kick decision into a penalty.
The club was fined N1 million, while referee Terwase Chia was suspended for the rest of the season for professional misconduct.
Jigawa Golden Stars, who refused to continue the match in protest, were fined N500,000. The game result was upheld as 0-0.
For Wikki Tourist’s match against Katsina United on February 8, 2026, the committee found that the Bauchi club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorized persons into restricted areas, and that their supporters threw stones onto the pitch.
Wikki Tourist was fined a total of N4 million for security lapses, unsporting behavior, and throwing dangerous objects. Additionally, the order to move their home games to Jos was reduced to a five-match ban.
Kwara United’s February 18, 2026, fixture against Rivers United also drew heavy sanctions.
The committee determined that Kwara United failed to control their supporters, leading to harassment and injuries to match officials and Rivers United players.
The club was fined N2 million for security failures, N1 million for supporter misconduct, and another N2 million as compensation for damages.
They also suffered a deduction of three points and three goals for assault on match officials. Furthermore, Kwara United’s relocation order to Abeokuta was reduced to a five-match ban, with additional sanctions upheld in full.
The committee emphasized that all decisions remain subject to appeal, underscoring its commitment to maintaining discipline and protecting the integrity of Nigerian football.
