NFF Upholds Heavy Sanctions on Remo Stars After Fan Violence, Orders Five‑Match Home Ban
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee has upheld fines and sanctions against Remo Stars FC following crowd trouble during their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) fixture against Ikorodu City FC on January 14, 2026, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
In its meeting held on January 27, the committee found that Remo Stars failed to provide adequate security, leading to violent attacks on Ikorodu City supporters after the match.
The away fans sustained injuries, and their team bus was damaged. The committee also noted that Remo Stars supporters threw objects onto the pitch, forcing the game to be stopped twice, and engaged in conduct capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
As a result, the NFF upheld fines totalling ₦5 million against the club: ₦2 million for inadequate security, ₦1 million for throwing objects onto the pitch, and ₦2 million as compensation for injuries and damage to Ikorodu City’s bus.
Additionally, the order that all Remo Stars’ home fixtures be moved to the Lekan Salami Stadium for the remainder of the season was reduced to a five‑match home ban, to run concurrently from the date of the sanction. The committee confirmed that all decisions remain subject to appeal.
The ruling was signed by Acting Chairman Barr. Ibrahim Mukhtar, Vice Chairman Barr. A.I. Abdulrahman, Member Barr. Bello Galadi, and Secretary Queen W. Otarakpo.
