Ngetich reveals why she signed to compete in Grand Slam Track
Kenya’s world long-distance sensation Agnes Ngetich has revealed why she will be racing in the Grand Slam Track, the new global home of professional track competition, next year.
The 23-year-old is the second Kenyan after Ronald Kwemoi signed to compete in the competition put together by former Olympics 200/400m champion and world record holder, Michael Johnson.
‘Joining Grand Slam Track has ignited even more fire within me. The competition is fierce, the atmosphere will be electric, and the possibilities are endless. I always dreamed of competing at the highest level, and joining Grand Slam Track is the next step in that dream.
‘Especially as I can do this on track now and in a way that I can plan my season properly. I’m excited to race against the fastest women in the world and inspire the next generation to dream big,’ said Ngetich who shattered the women’s 10km road world record by an astounding 28 seconds, clocking an incredible 28:46 in January.
She also set a new world best in the 5km (14:13) on her way to winning the 10km in Valencia.
The Kenyan secured the second-fastest time in history in the half marathon with her 1:03:04 run at the Valencia Half Marathon last month.
