Niger Delta Games 2026: Ikpokpo Promises Improved Edition in Edo State
Organisers of the Niger Delta Games have reaffirmed their commitment to making the competition a permanent fixture in Nigeria’s sporting calendar, with a focus on transforming grassroots sports development.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, Chairman of Dunamis Icon, Mr. Malik Ikpokpo, said preparations are in full swing for the successful staging of the 2026 edition in Edo State.
Ikpokpo noted that the maiden edition held last year in Akwa Ibom was a success largely due to the strategic support of the NSC under the leadership of Mallam Shehu and Olopade.
He expressed gratitude for the Commission’s continued technical and logistical assistance, stressing that the cordial relationship between the organisers and the NSC has been vital to the growth of the Games.
‘We are very excited about the Niger Delta Games because of the strong support we receive from the NSC. This visit is to brief the Director General on our level of preparation, the role of our sponsor NDDC, and the readiness of Edo State to host all nine Niger Delta states,’ Ikpokpo said.
He emphasised that the Games are more than just another competition, describing them as a sustainable platform to discover and nurture Nigeria’s future sporting talents.
According to him, the vision of the Niger Delta Games aligns with the NSC’s drive to build a vibrant and sustainable sports economy through regular domestic competitions of international standard.
The 2026 Niger Delta Games will take place from February 20 to 26 in Edo State, with organisers promising an improved and well-coordinated event.
