Niger Delta Games: Ikpokpo Tasks Committees on Early Registration, Youth Development
Sir Malik Ikpokpo KSM, Managing Director of Dunamis Icon Limited and Project Consultant for the 2nd Niger Delta Games (NDG), has charged liaison committees across the Niger Delta to intensify mobilisation for the registration of athletes and coaches ahead of the 2026 edition of the competition.
Ikpokpo, represented by veteran journalist and Games Project Director, Mr. Fred Edoreh, stressed that only athletes registered on the official portal will be cleared to participate, adding that the upcoming Games remain strictly for competitors under the age of 20.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Akwa Ibom State Liaison Committee in Uyo, the State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Elder Paul Bassey, described the Niger Delta Games as a vital platform for youth development and a perfect fit for the state government’s grassroots sports agenda.
He commended the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Dunamis Icon Limited for sustaining the initiative for two consecutive years, noting that the event continues to serve as a fertile ground for talent discovery and growth.
Bassey reaffirmed the state’s commitment to excellence, assuring the organisers that the committee would uphold high standards of discipline, thoroughness and full compliance with all guidelines.
He emphasised that the Games align with Governor Umo Eno’s directive to identify and nurture young talents across the state.
The newly inaugurated Akwa Ibom Liaison Committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Sports, with Mr. Mfon Bassey serving as secretary. Other members include Olympian Catherine Ewa, George Essien and Edidiong Stephen.
The committee is tasked with coordinating pre‑Games activities and ensuring seamless logistics for Team Akwa Ibom’s participation in the regional sporting fiesta.
