Nigeria 1-1 Equatorial Guinea: Osimhen rescues a point for Super Eagles, moves joint third in top scorer’s chart

Victor Osimhen ensured Nigeria earned a point from their opening group game of an Africa Cup of Nations game for the second time after netting in the 1-1
draw against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday afternoon at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire.

An Ivan Salvador strike on 36 minutes had put Equatorial Guinea into a shock lead but the Nigerians restored parity immediately with Osimhen heading home an
Ademola Lookman’s cross.

Osimhen would later miss a sitter in the second half but his goal has drew him level with Yakubu Aiyegbeni in Nigeria’s all-time top scorers list.

The goal was the Napoli forward’s 21st in 28 matches for Nigeria while it took 57 games between 2000 and 2012 to score his 21 goals.

Rashidi Yekini tops the list with 37 goals in 58 games at an impressive ratio of 0.63 goals per game.

Segun Odegbami is second with 23 goals scored in 46 games between 1976 and 1982.
