Nigeria 83-47 Cameroon: ‘This is the definition of Nigerian basketball’: says D’Tigress guard, Kalu
Nigeria’s D’Tigress delivered a masterclass in intensity and teamwork on Thursday night, crushing Cameroon 83–47 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
From the opening tip, the reigning African champions set the tone—just as guard Ezinne Kalu described: ‘This is the definition of Nigerian basketball: fighting, throwing the first punch, setting the tone, and bringing the energy to win over our supporters and fans.’
That energy translated into a dominant first quarter, where Nigeria raced ahead 21–9, and never looked back.
Cameroon briefly steadied in the second quarter, tying it 20–20, but D’Tigress responded with a ruthless third-quarter blitz, outscoring the Lionesses 25–2. By the final buzzer, Nigeria had sealed a 36-point victory, extending their unbeaten AfroBasket streak to 27 games—a run that dates back to 2015.
Amy Okonkwo led the scoring with 18 points, six rebounds, and an assist, while Nicole Enabosi and Victoria Macaulay each added 12 points. Elizabeth Balogun chipped in 11, and captain Sarah Ogoke, returning from injury, sparked the team early with a smooth three-pointer.
Remarkably, all 12 players on the Nigerian roster saw court time and got on the scoresheet, underscoring the team’s depth and cohesion.
Forward Murjanatu Musa summed up the mood: ‘We played as a team, enjoying the game by doing what we do best, and this is the result. We feel great about making it to the semifinals again.’
Nigeria now faces Senegal in a highly anticipated semifinal clash—a rematch of the 2023 final.
With a fifth consecutive AfroBasket title within reach, D’Tigress are not just defending a crown—they’re defining an era.
