Nigeria and Jamaica Headline Unity Cup Return to The Valley
The Unity Cup, the international football tournament celebrating Afrocentric and diaspora communities, will make a triumphant return to The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic FC, from May 26 to 30, 2026.
Nigeria, Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and India will compete in the four-nation spectacle, marking a sentimental homecoming for the event that first gained prominence at the same venue in 2004.
The opening semi-final on May 26 will see Nigeria face Zimbabwe in a rematch of their fierce World Cup qualifying battles, while Jamaica and India will clash the following evening in a fixture expected to ignite both the pitch and the stands with cultural vibrancy.
Finals Day on May 30 promises a festival atmosphere, complete with global cuisine, live performances, and a double-header featuring the third-place play-off and the grand final.
Organisers AfroSport emphasised that the Unity Cup is more than football, describing it as a celebration of rivalry, friendship, and respect. Leaders from the participating federations echoed this sentiment, with Nigeria’s NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau pledging the Super Eagles’ determination to retain their crown, while Jamaica’s Michael Ricketts urged diaspora fans to rally behind their team.
Zimbabwe’s Nqobile Magwizi hailed the tournament as a landmark moment for his nation, and India’s federation welcomed the chance to return to the UK stage after 24 years.
