Nigeria Names Record-Breaking 172-Athlete Squad for 2025 African Armwrestling Championship in Abuja
Nigeria has taken a commanding step in its quest for continental dominance by unveiling an unprecedented 172-member armwrestling team ahead of the 14th African Armwrestling Championship, to be held in Abuja from July 23 to 27, 2025.
The formidable lineup—comprising elite male and female athletes, para-armwrestlers, and rising youth talents—was selected after a rigorous nationwide process. Now camped at the TDC training facility in Abuja, the team is undergoing final preparations in what officials are calling the most intense and unified build-up in the federation’s history.
According to Nigeria Armwrestling Federation (NAWF) President Engr. Samuel Jackson, the squad is a reflection of the country’s depth, resilience, and burning desire to shine on home soil: “From experienced champions to fearless newcomers, every athlete on this team embodies Nigeria’s strength, spirit, and hunger to lead.”
Nigeria, which is hosting the continental tournament for the second time, has pooled talent from all six geopolitical zones, making this not just a competition, but a celebration of national unity through sport. With over 20 countries set to participate, expectations are high—and Nigeria is leaving nothing to chance.
Supporting logistics are already in motion through partnerships with major stakeholders, including kit sponsor Prostar Sports International and several transport and hospitality partners. With the team officially in camp, the mascot and jersey unveiled, and preparations in full swing, Abuja 2025 promises to be a championship to remember.
