Nigeria Olympic Committee Women’s Commission Hosts Southwest Seminar in Ekiti

The Women’s Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), in collaboration with the Ekiti State Government, will host the Southwest edition of its nationwide seminar series aimed at empowering women in sports leadership.
The seminar is scheduled to take place on August 19 and August 22, 2025, at the Ekiti State Governor’s Conference Hall, and will bring together female coaches, administrators, and technical officials from State Sports Councils and Commissions across the Southwest zone.
The event will be chaired by Professor Florence Adeyanju, Chairperson of the NOC Women’s Commission, who praised the Ekiti State Government for its strong support in facilitating the seminar. “This collaboration is a testament to the state’s commitment to advancing gender equity in sports,” said Prof. Adeyanju. She also called for continued support as preparations begin for the combined Southeast and South South seminar, with details to be announced shortly.
The seminar will be formally declared open by Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and Nigeria’s sole representative on the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
According to Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, Secretary of the Women’s Commission, the seminar series began in July with successful sessions held across Nigeria’s three northern zones. The Southwest edition marks a significant step in the Commission’s ongoing efforts to build capacity and foster inclusion within the sports sector.
