Nigeria Vs Dominican Republic: Flamingos aiming to complete 100% group phase record for the third time

From third place group phase finish in the inaugural edition of the competition in 2008 in New Zealand, Nigeria’s Flamingos completed the first of their two 100% record at the second edition in Trinidad and Tobago, beating Chile (5-0), Trinidad and Tobago (2-1) and North Korea (3-2).

The Flamingos won two and drew one two years later in Azerbaijan before completing another 100% record in 2014 in Costa Rica, beating China (2-1), Colombia (2-1) and Mexico (3-0).

Two years ago, the Flamingos lost one of their three group games (2-1 Germany) and went all the way to clinch a bronze medal, beating Germany 3-2 on penalties after the game had ended 3-3 in regulation time.

The Flamingos will be seeking for their third 100% record when they face host, Dominican Republic in their final group game early Wednesday morning (Nigeria).

The Nigerians will be looking up to their star striker, Harmony Chidi to start delivering the goals after netting her first of the competition in the 4-0 defeat of Ecuador in their second group game.

“I’m very happy. I don’t know how to express this. It’s joy for me right now because in the last game, when the goal didn’t come, my coach calmed me down. He believes in me so much that I can do it, even when it’s not coming, so I appreciate him for that and bless God for it,’ said Chidi who netted 13 times in the qualifiers.
