Nigerian athlete, Emmanuel Ineh charged with first-degree rape in Alabama, USA

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department says Emmnauel Ineh, a former Nigeria African triple jump Youth Games champion, suspected of a sexual assault has been
arrested.

The 23 year old, according to reports WBRC, is in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. He is charged with first-degree rape.

WBRC further reports that investigations into the reported sexual assaults are ongoing.

The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Department, according to WBRC is calling on ‘anyone who believes they were a victim of a sexual assault by Ineh is encouraged
to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (205) 464-8690.

Ineh was a finalist in the triple jump event at the 2018 African Athletics Championships in Asaba, Delta state.

He was one of the two Nigerian athletes convicted in the United States for their part in a ‘complex fraud scheme.’

Ineh and Toluwani Adebakin, a sprinter, pleaded guilty to charges of ‘sending thousands of illicitly obtained proceeds to fraudsters in Nigeria as part of a larger mail fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering conspiracy.’
