Nigerian Samson Adamu Appointed CAF Acting Secretary General

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the appointment of Nigerian football administrator, Samson Adamu, as its Acting Secretary General.

His appointment marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first Nigerian to hold the position since CAF’s establishment more than seven decades ago.

Adamu’s nomination was put forward by the CAF Executive Committee and formally ratified by the Congress during its meeting at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

He succeeds Swiss-Congolese Veron Mosengo-Omba, who tendered his resignation the same day.

Prior to this new role, Adamu served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he played a pivotal role in organizing and overseeing major continental competitions.

His elevation to Acting Secretary General is seen as a recognition of his leadership and extensive experience within African football administration.

CAF officials expressed confidence that Adamu’s appointment will strengthen the organization’s operations and reinforce its commitment to advancing football across Africa.
