Nigeria’s 2024/25 Premier League stats leaders after seven games

With the international break in full swing, Sportsnow.com.ng takes a look at Nigerian players who top the charts in as many as seven key categories in the first seven Matchweeks of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Goals:
Alex Iwobi is the only Nigerian who has scored in the Premier League after seven match weeks. The Fulham midfielder netted the winner for the Cottagers in their 2-1 defeat of Wilfred Ndidi’s Leicester City at Craven Cottage in August.

Assists:
Surprisingly, it is Wilfred Ndidi that tops the chart here after his conversion as a more offensive player, first by Enzo Maresca last season in the Sky Bet Championships and now by Steve Copper in the Premier League. The 27-year-old has bagged four assists in seven games, the most by a Nigerian ever at this stage of the competition and third most in the Premier League behind Bukayo Saka (7) and Cole Palmer (5). Iwobi has also provided an assist.

Appearances:
Only four Nigerians have appeared in the seven games so far played in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season and they are the Fulham duo of Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, Nottingham Forests’ Ola Aina and Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City.

Minutes Played:
Only Calvin Bassey (630) has played every minute of his club’s Premier League games this season. He is followed by Wifred Ndidi who has featured for 614 minutes.

Fouls: Wilfred Ndidi has committed more fouls (14) than any other Nigerian in the Premier League after seven games and he is followed by Calvin Bassey who has committed eight fouls. Ndidi also tops in the number of yellow cards received. He has received three, one more than Bassey.

Tackles won:
Despite his more offensive role this term for Leicester City, Wilfred Ndidi has won more tackles than any Nigerian in the Premier League so far. In fact, his 28 tackles are the most won by any player in the competition after seven games and he is followed by Chelsea’s Moses Caicedo (27) while Ola Aina (11) is the nearest Nigerian to him.

Interceptions:
This used to be a Wilfred Ndidi territory but the very impressive Ola Aina who has been one of the key players for Forest this season has made more interjections (11) than Ndidi (4).
