Nigeria’s Cycling Federation Rolls Out 2026 Programme of Activities
The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) has unveiled its calendar of activities for 2026, featuring a mix of local, national, and international competitions aimed at boosting the sport’s development across the country.
In a letter addressed to directors of sports in the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and cycling club owners, CFN Secretary General Joel Akinluwa urged stakeholders to align their preparations with the calendar to ensure athletes are ready for the scheduled events.
He also encouraged them to notify sports commission chairmen, directors, and sponsors in their respective states to work closely with the programme.
The year’s activities will begin on January 26 with an International Cycling Union (UCI) sanctioned online Level 1 coaching course.
Eleven international championships are included in the calendar, notably the Confederation of African Cycling (CAC) Africa Track and Para-Track Championship slated for Abuja in May, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 2, and the UCI Para-Cycling Road Championship scheduled for September in the United States.
According to Akinluwa, the programme will conclude with the biennial National Sports Festival, which will be hosted for the first time in Enugu in December, with the exact date yet to be confirmed.
