Nigeria’s Honest Ahanor on Real Madrid Radar

Real Madrid are closely monitoring Nigerian-born defender Honest Ovonranwen Ahanor, who has emerged as one of Serie A’s brightest young talents at Atalanta.

According to Sky Italia’s transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the Spanish giants have been scouting the 18-year-old centre-back, who has impressed with his versatility, tactical intelligence, and maturity beyond his years.

Ahanor, born on 23 February 2008 in Aversa, Italy to Nigerian parents, is eligible to represent Nigeria internationally despite developing entirely within the Italian football system.

He has already featured for Italy’s U21 side, but under current citizenship laws, his senior international future lies with Nigeria.

Since joining Atalanta from Genoa last summer in a €17m move, the left-footed defender has established himself as a key figure in La Dea’s backline. He has made 28 appearances across all competitions, including nine in the Champions League, where he scored once.

Real Madrid’s interest comes at a crucial time, with veteran defenders David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger set to leave the Bernabéu when their contracts expire in June.

The Spanish club sees Ahanor as a long-term defensive solution, combining youth, athleticism, and technical quality.
