Nnamdi Listed on The Bowerman Men’s Preseason Watch List for 2025

Oghenebrume, Ogazi receiving votes

Baylor University thrower Chinicherem Prosper Nnamdi is among 10 athletes named to The Bowerman 2025 men’s preseason watch list, announced by USTFCCCA on Thursday.

The Nigerian javelin record holder is making his career watch list debut and is the third Baylor man to do so, joining Trayvon Bromell (2014, 2015) and KC Lightfoot (2020, 2021).

Nnamdi won the javelin gold for Nigeria at the African Games in Accra, Ghana last year and was second behind Kenya’s Julius Yego at the African Championships also last year.

The three-time Nigeria champion made his Olympic debut in Paris last August, finishing 14th in the final classification with his 77.53m.

He set a new 82.80m Nigeria record on his way to winning the African Games last year.

He also broke the NCAA West Preliminary meet record and punched his ticket to Eugene with a mark of 82.54m. He went on and tabbed his third All-American honor at the NCAA Championships, placing in fourth. Nnamdi holds every top 10 mark in Baylor program history in the javelin.

The Bowerman is the highest honor bestowed to collegiate track and field’s most outstanding athletes of the year.

Meanwhile, Godson Oghenebrume and Samuel Ogazi are receiving votes on the opening edition of The Bowerman.

Oghenebrume is listed a year after being named to the preseason watch list in 2024 following his standout performances. He claimed back-to-back SEC titles in the 100m and 4×100m relay at the outdoor championship.

At the SEC Championships he clocked a season-best time of 9.99 seconds and helped the 4×100 to an LSU No. 2 performance-list time of 38.19 seconds a year after setting the collegiate record with his squad in 2023.

Ogazi has been listed after his incredible debut season in the NCAA where he won a silver medal at the outdoor championships. He was also at the Olympics, running all the way to the final and finished seventh.
