No Cause for Alarm: Eagles Dismiss Camp Crisis Rumours After Mozambique Rout
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dismissed speculation of unrest in their camp following Monday night’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique that sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 35th Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Striker Victor Osimhen was seen gesturing towards fellow forward Ademola Lookman just before a corner kick, sparking conjecture in sections of the media.
Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor moved quickly to quash the rumours, insisting there was no crisis.
‘There is no problem whatsoever in our camp. Whatever people saw as a crisis between two brothers was easily resolved a couple of hours later. All is good and we are presently at training,’ Achor confirmed on Tuesday evening.
He also dismissed reports that Jerome Akor Adams, who scored his first-ever AFCON goal against Mozambique, had abandoned the team camp.
‘He took permission to go and see his mother who was hospitalized here in Fès, and returned in less than an hour,’ Achor explained.
On the pitch, Nigeria’s attacking stars continued to shine. Deputy captain Osimhen netted a brace to move to 34 goals in 50 matches for the Super Eagles, just three shy of the all-time record of 37 held by the late Rashidi Yekini.
Lookman, who had already contributed two goals and two assists earlier in the tournament, added another goal and three assists on the night, underlining his growing influence.
All 26 available players took part in Tuesday’s training session at the Sardienne Complex, with young defender Ryan Alebiosu continuing his recovery programme.
The three-time African champions will now shift base to Marrakech on Thursday, where they will face the winner of the Algeria versus DR Congo Round of 16 clash in Saturday’s quarter-final, scheduled to kick off at 5pm.
