‘No More Mistakes Will Be Justified’: Atalanta Fans Unleash Banner Warning To Lookman

Atalanta BC confirms the return of forward Ademola Lookman to the club’s training facility in Zingonia following an extended and unauthorized absence. The player, who had been away for 15 days without formal communication, has been partially reinstated under strict conditions as the club enforces its disciplinary protocols.

Upon his arrival, Lookman was met with a strong reaction from supporters. A banner displayed outside the Bortolotti Center read: ‘The jersey must be honored. Another mistake will not be justified.’

The message reflects the frustration among fans regarding the player’s recent conduct and underscores the high expectations placed on those who represent the Nerazzurri colors.

The situation stems from Lookman’s interest in a potential transfer to Inter Milan. Despite a formal offer from Inter amounting to €42 million plus €3 million in performance-related bonuses, Atalanta opted to retain the player, prioritizing squad integrity and long-term planning.

Inter has since redirected its transfer strategy toward midfield reinforcements.

In response to the absence, Atalanta has imposed a series of internal sanctions. Lookman will train separately under the supervision of a personal athletic trainer until September 2 and will not be included in matchday squads for the opening two fixtures of the Serie A season. Additionally, the club has issued a financial penalty in accordance with its code of conduct.

While Lookman’s return marks a step toward resolution, his future remains uncertain with ten days left in the summer transfer window. The club reiterates that any decisions regarding his status will be made solely by Atalanta’s management, in alignment with its sporting and ethical standards.
