Noah Lyles Set for Rome Diamond League Return Since 2019
Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles will return to the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome on June 4 as part of his bid for a record-equalling seventh Diamond League title, according to the official Diamond League website.
The American sprint superstar, already the most successful track athlete in the series’ history, captured his sixth Diamond Trophy in the 200m last season.
Another triumph this year would see him match the overall record of seven titles held jointly by French pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie and USA triple jumper Christian Taylor.
Lyles, who is also the reigning world champion in the 200m, last competed in Rome in 2019, where he narrowly lost to compatriot Michael Norman in the 200m.
Reflecting on that race, he said: ‘One of my favourite races ever was in Rome against Michael Norman. I’m hoping this time brings another one like that.’
Rome will serve as the fifth leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League, which begins in Doha on May 8 and concludes with the two‑day series final in Brussels on September 4‑5.
The competition spans four continents and 15 cities, bringing together the biggest names in track and field in some of the sport’s most iconic arenas.
