Nothingham Forest 1-0 Arsenal: Awoniyi named official man of the match

Taiwo Awoniyi has been named the official man of the match by the Premier League following his winner for Nothingham Forest against Arsenal Saturday evening at the City Ground.
It is the second time the 25 year old has been named the official man of the match in his debut season in the Premier League and he is one of three Nigerians after Kelechi Iheanacho (3) and Alex Iwobi (1) to be named the best player in a Premier League fixture this season.
Awoniyi was first named the official man of the match in January when his lone strike was enough to give his club all three points.
He has now scored the winner for Forest four times this season with all ending in 1-0 wins and three have come at the City Ground.
The Nigerian has now netted his fifth goal in his last three games for Forest in the month of May and ninth overall to further extend his lead as the top scoring Nigerian in the Premier League this season.
He also moved above Brennan Johnson (8) as Nothingham Forest’s top scorer so far with a game to go.
With his five goals in his last three games, Awoniyi has joined an elite Forest class of goalscorer to have scored in three successive league
games.
Only Dougie Freedman have achieved that feat before for the club – but perhaps this crucial strike by the Nigerian will go down as one of the most important
in the club’s history.
