NPFL: Amuneke out to avoid three straight defeats with Heartland, Finidi still unbeaten
Former Nigeria international winger, Emmanuel Amuneke is under pressure to win his third game as coach of Heartland FC of Owerri after losing his first two to Enyimba at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri and to George Finidi’s Rivers United.
Heartland will host Katsina United at the Dan Anyiam stadium on Sunday for their second home game of the season and it is game the Amuneke and players must win well to atone for their two successive losses.
When both sides last met in Owerri, it ended 1-1 with the visitors scoring the two goals viz an own goal by Alladoum Kolimba to give the host the lead on four minutes before Michael Ibe equalized in the 73rd minute.
While Amuneke is struggling for his first win in the NPFL, Finidi has remained unbeaten with Rivers United after the former Super Eagles right winger led his team to defeat Lobi Stars away from home (Lafia).
The Port Harcourt-based team won 1-0 with Kabir Abdullahi scoring the goal that lifted Rivers United to the top of the log with seven points.
Abdullahi has now scored three goals in three games so far this season to stay top of the top scorers chart.
With Kano Pillars (3rd) hosting Remo Stars (2nd) on Sunday, the table could change.
A win for the visitors will see them regain leadership of the league while a win for the host will draw them level with Rivers United. A goalless draw will leave Rivers United albeit Remo Stars will tie the Sim Fubara’s team with seven points each.
