NPFL: Eyes on all points as Shooting Stars bid to end El Kanemi Warriors’ unbeaten start to 2024/25 season
Finidi and Rivers United seek a return to winning ways after first defeat of season last week
‘Eyes on all points’ was the clear message on Shooting Stars of Ibadan’s X page as the Oluyole Warriors prepare to host El Kanemi Warriors in Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL’s matchday 11 fixture at the Lekan Salami stadium in Adamasingba in Ibadan.
The visitors are the only unbeaten side in the competition after Ikorodu City ended Finidi George and Rivers United’s unbeaten start to the season last week in Lagos.
Shooting Stars lost for the fourth away game last week in Minna to drop to 15th on the log with 12 points from 10 games.
Sunday in Ibadan, the Oluyole Warriors will be battling the Warriors from Maiduguri for the three points on offer and the host say they are ready to take all three points as they prepare for their third straight win at home.
The last time El Kanemi Warriors and Shooting Stars met, the spoils were shared in a goalless draw in April 2023 at the El Kanemi Stadium in Maiduguri.
This was four months after El Kanemi Warriors lost 1-0 in Ibadan to their host on Sunday following a 78th minute goal by Samuel Tiza Iorwuese.
Meanwhile, Rivers United will be aiming to return to winning ways after losing their unbeaten run in Lagos last weekend. The Port Harcourt-based side will be hosting Bayelsa United in this south-south derby.
They have faced each other five times since 2021 with both teams winning twice and one game ending in a draw.
