NPFL: Ikorodu City FC ready to defy expectations again, storm Minna to seek fourth win in a row

Giant killing Ikorodu City FC will be seeking their fourth straight win in their first ever season in the Nigerian topflight league when they engage their host, Niger Tornadoes at the At the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna on Saturday.

The Oga Boys defied expectations the last time they played away from their Mobolaji Arena abode when an Emmanuel Solomon’s 89th minute goal at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina fetched them a 2-1 win for their first away win of their maiden campaign in the NPFL.

They are ready to defy expectations again against a side that has won its last two home games.

‘We’ve seen this story before—our boys in black or white colour defying expectations, rewriting narratives, and proving to everyone that we are not here to merely make up the numbers.

“Last weekend’s derby 2-1 victory over Shooting Stars wasn’t just another win; it was a statement. It marked three wins on the bounce, pushing us to 8th on the NPFL table.

“This Saturday, we march to Minna to take on Niger Tornadoes in another chapter of our incredible journey. With both teams level on 17 points, separated only by our superior goal difference, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

‘This isn’t just about climbing the table, it’s about showing that we are built for moments like this. We are prepared for the test and the team’s confidence is high. We’re fully geared up to approach this game with all we’ve got.

‘Our attacking strength is something we can rely on, 11 goals in our last five games speak for itself. While we’ve only kept one clean sheet recently, we’re focused on improving defensively.

‘But going forward, we’re determined to keep that attacking momentum going. We’re also looking to extend our winning streak to four games and we’re confident that’s very much within our grasp,’ they wrote on their website.
