NPFL: Nasarawa United Extend Unbeaten Run with Draw in Bauchi
Nasarawa United extended their unbeaten run to four matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League after holding Wikki Tourists to a 1-1 draw at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, on Sunday evening.
The Solid Miners, chasing a continental spot, struck first through new signing Chimezie Victor, who stunned the home crowd with a composed finish in the 28th minute. But Wikki responded swiftly, as Jonathan Mairiga levelled seven minutes later to ensure both sides went into the break on equal terms.
The hosts had a golden opportunity to seize the advantage nine minutes into the second half when Ibrahim Shuaibu stepped up from the penalty spot, only to see his powerful effort crash against the upright.
Despite further attempts from both teams, neither could find a breakthrough in a tense, stop-start contest watched by Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, and other dignitaries.
The result keeps Nasarawa United firmly in the title race, narrowing the gap to just one point behind leaders Rivers United, who have 41 points but fewer games played. Wikki Tourists, meanwhile, remain in 13th place with 28 points from 24 matches.
Nasarawa will now return to Lafia to host Bayelsa United on match-day 25, scheduled for Sunday, 8 February 2026, at the Lafia City Stadium.
