NPFL Review: Enyimba extend record as 2024/25 NPFL draw specialists with 10th in 20 games
Joseph Atule’s 55th minute goal was all Enyimba needed to secure a draw against Oriental brothers, Heartland of Owerri Thursday at the Enyimba international stadium in Aba in a Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, matchday 21 fixture.
Emmanuel Amuneke’s Heartland scored first on 18 minutes via an own goal by Daniel Ekpo and bravely defended the goal to end the first half 1-0.
After the restart, Enyimba equalized to earn a point which was not enough as they dropprf from eighth to ninth on the log following Niger Tornadoes’ 2-1 defeat of Kwara United in Minna also on Thursday.
The draw further confirmed Enyimba’s status as the draw specialist this season as they have now drawn 10 of the 20 games they have played and have won six times.
For Heartland, it was second draw on the road in a row and four overall away from home.
At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Handsome Surveyor’s 51st minute goal secured a point for Rivers United who have now failed to win in their last four games in the competition.
Visitors Bendel Insurance scored first on six minutes through striker, Meyinwa Oritseweyinmi but the host equalized on 34 minutes through Ubong Friday to ensure the two teams were level after the first 45 minutes.
After the restart, Uche Collins restored the visitors’ lead on 49 minutes but the lead was short-lived.
Rivers United remain third on the log with 35 points, seven adrift of league leaders, Remo Stars of Ikenne who came from 2-0 down to defeat Abia Warriors 3-2 at the Remo Stars stadium on Wednesday.
It was Remo Stars’ 13th win of the campaign, the most by any team in the ongoing season.
Shooting Stars of Ibadan are second with 36 points after record their sixth straight win without conceding a goal after defeating Nasarawa United 2-0 at the Lekan Salami stadium also on Wednesday.
The Oluyole Warriors have now won 11 of the 21 games they have played so far this season and only trail Remo Stars by just two wins.
