NPFL Review: Rangers Regain Top Spot as Rivers United Falter on the Road Again

Enugu Rangers returned to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after being held to a goalless draw by Barau FC at the Cathedral on Sunday.

The Flying Antelopes, who started the weekend in second place, moved back into first on goal difference following Rivers United’s defeat.

Warri Wolves ended their four-game winless run with a decisive 2-0 victory over Rivers United in the South-South derby. Prince Egbohon struck in the 12th minute before Othuke Egbo sealed the win in stoppage time.

The result marked Rivers United’s fifth consecutive away defeat and their eighth loss of the season, further denting their title hopes after their CAF Champions League exit.

Elsewhere, Abia Warriors, Kano Pillars, Plateau United, Kun Khalifat FC, and Nasarawa United all recorded emphatic home victories.

Kano Pillars delivered a statement 4-0 win, Kwara United followed with a 3-0 triumph, while Remo Stars and Katsina United also secured maximum points.

Kun Khalifat FC snatched victory in injury time to claim all three points, adding drama to an already tightly contested round.

Rangers and Rivers United are level on 55 points, but Rangers lead on goal difference. Ikorodu City trail by three points, while Nasarawa United and Shooting Stars remain in the chasing pack.

With just five rounds left, the NPFL title race remains wide open, and every fixture could prove decisive.
