NPFL: Rivers United Go Top After Late Winner Against Barau United

Rivers United climbed to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table after edging Barau United 1–0 in a tense encounter at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

The decisive moment came five minutes from regulation time when Stephen Manyo produced a superb finish in the 85th minute to seal victory for the Pride of Rivers.

The win was crucial for a side still recovering from their early exit in the CAF Champions League, as they now look determined to reclaim domestic glory and earn another shot at continental competition.

With the result, Rivers United lead the NPFL standings with 46 points from 24 matches, and crucially, they still have three outstanding fixtures to play.

Ikorodu City sit second with 45 points from 27 games, while Rangers International and Nasarawa United are tied on 44 points apiece from 27 matches, occupying third and fourth place respectively.

The victory not only strengthens Rivers United’s title credentials but also sets the stage for a thrilling run-in as the season approaches its decisive phase.
