NRFF Launches Grassroots Rugby Coaching and Medical Course in Abeokuta
The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), in partnership with the Ogun State Government, has announced a three-day rugby coaching and medical course scheduled to take place from April 23 to 25, 2026, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta.
The programme is designed to strengthen grassroots rugby development by equipping aspiring coaches and medical personnel with essential knowledge in safety, game fundamentals, and athlete management.
Participants are expected to have completed basic World Rugby training modules, including Rugby Ready, T1 Rugby (non-contact), and introductory courses in coaching and player welfare/medical care.
According to organisers, the initiative forms part of NRFF’s broader strategy to build capacity at the grassroots level and encourage wider participation in rugby across Nigeria.
The course will run concurrently with the 3rd edition of the Abeokuta Rugby 7s Tournament, which promises another thrilling spectacle following last year’s final where Cowrie RFC edged Racing RFC of Lagos 26-21 to emerge champions.
The Federation expressed optimism that the combined training and tournament will not only raise the standard of play but also inspire more young Nigerians to embrace rugby as a sport and career path.
