NSC and NOC celebrate Team Nigeria’s triumph at ANOCA Zone III Games

Team Nigeria has earned high praise from the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) following a dominant showing at the ANOCA Zone III Games in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Over five days of intense competition across four disciplines viz Badminton, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, and Wrestling, Nigerian athletes showcased exceptional skill and determination, finishing with an impressive medal haul: 16 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze.
Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, speaking on behalf of Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the Commission, commended the athletes and their coaches for their unwavering commitment to national pride. ‘I salute every one of you for putting aside challenges to achieve this remarkable feat. Your dedication is deeply appreciated, and the nation is proud of you,’ he said.
Olopade reaffirmed the NSC’s commitment to athlete welfare and development, emphasizing collaboration with the NOC under the leadership of Dikko. ‘We believe that when we invest in our athletes, they reward the country with medals. This aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to build a sustainable sports economy,’ he added.
NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel, also lauded the team’s performance, noting its significance as preparation for upcoming international events. ‘The athletes have represented Nigeria and the Zone admirably. Their success here will serve as valuable momentum heading into next month’s Solidarity Games in Saudi Arabia,” Gumel stated.
He further emphasized the shared goal of the NSC and NOC to ensure Nigerian athletes gain exposure through international competitions ahead of major events like the Commonwealth Games, All Africa Games, and the Olympics.
